Amgen-Helix Project

KPFF Engineers

Size:

550,000 square feet

Scope:

Design criteria was established for the new buildings in part by conducting ambient structural vibration measurements at existing sensitive Immunex labs. Our team then conducted noise and vibration measurements at the proposed site. Design recommendations for the project included vibration control and vibration isolation of all mechanical equipment necessary to meet the criteria.

Challenges:

The project site is located adjacent to a rail line, and grain terminal rail cars were a major source of noise and vibration. After unloading each car the entire line is pushed down the line to couple with earlier unloaded cars causing impact related noise and vibration. This turned out to be one of the most disturbing sources at the site.
