Few spaces can better demonstrate the necessity of acoustics then an education facility. Basic issues involving sound isolation and sound quality should be addressed within new and renovated schools, including Washington Administrative code 246-366-110, which limits exterior and interior noise within the school. ANSI (American National Standards Institute) has recognized the importance of noise control within educational facilities, and has recently introduced S12.60-2002, a new standard for the acoustical design of schools. Washington CHPS (Criteria for High Performance Schools) standards give points for improved acoustic performance in schools.
